The Bonny Studio Scholarship / Mentorship program and Consultations
In 2013 I got the idea to start a Scholarship / Mentorship program here at The Bonny Studio. My mission is to assist the serious artists (who have begun to forge their unique body of experimental "abstract-centric" work), to build from the basics into an ongoing directed practice in a holistic manner. My program seeks to help the artist strengthen the integrity and depth of the work, create introductions for greater engagement in the arts community, suggest gallery and submission opportunities locally and nationally and to provide monthly meetings to discuss progress.
My desire to create this program came from YOU, my students and the joy I get in seeing your hard work, dedication and amazing progress. I am very proud of that and the wonderful supportive community we’ve built here. I want to give back as a Thank You for allowing me the opportunity to be your teacher.
After several consultations, I took on Jeanne Neal for my first foray into the program and it’s been an exciting couple of years to see Jeanne’s growth and development in these areas. Jeanne has developed her work and unique processes with a methodical, experimental open minded dedication. Her work has been included in the prestigious Hunting Prize, The Texas National, RO2 Gallery’s “Chaos” exhibition and the upcoming “Family Ties” exhibition.
The goals and paths of each artist are individual. It’s my intention to discover and support those of you who are in my classes, those I do consultations for and those who become part of the Scholarship / Mentorship program in ways to best bring out your most unique qualities and place in the world to shine.
I am hoping to take on new artists every 2 or 3 years. The 2016 Scholarship/Mentorsip artists are El Brachter, Kathy Aldridge, Liz Talamayan and Lydia Gowens.
Specifics about the Scholarship /Mentorship program:
a. The Scholarship / Mentorship program is free of charge
As many of you know; I do one hour consultations ($75 per hour) which can cover any variety of topics including the development of your body of work, website, artist statement, suggestions for gallery representation and exhibition opportunities and much more. Details about consultations here: http://thebonnystudio.com/Asset.asp?AssetID=14545&AKey=5M235QYD
The Scholarship / Mentorship program is a separate program from the paid consultations but I would suggest anyone wanting to delve deeper into their work and / or marketing strategies schedule some time for consultations.
b. The Scholarship / Mentorship program is a long term commitment to develop every area of the artist’s life. It’s for the artist who has begun to develop their unique visual, technical and or conceptual language.
I hope I will get to everyone interested in the program, eventually. In the meantime, you are welcome to consider consultations as another way to foster your growth. I am interested in helping artists, artistically and in the area of showing their work if that is of interest as well. Your dedication through classes and workshops is greatly appreciated! I greatly enjoy sharing my insights.
Many thanks for being an important part of my life, Bonny
